Programs Preview – from the Program Committee

2025 promises to be a fantastic year of fun and learning for Alamance Piecemakers!

UPCOMING PROGRAMS AT MONTHLY MEETINGS:

  • Our January program is “Quilts from the Sharing Table” by Barbara James. We have all seen the beautiful quilts she creates featuring bits and pieces from our discards, and she will share her thought process and secrets with us. What could be more in keeping with the spirit of quilt making than to improve our “make do with what you have” skills?
  • In February, our program will be the kick-off for the guild’s Semi Quincentennial
    Quilt    . We will explain what it is, the design for the quilt, how you can participate, and where we plan to have the quilt displayed in the USA’s 250th birthday year in 2026.
  • MARCH – A recap and discussion of the 2025 quilt show will be the topic for the March meeting. This is the opportunity for everyone to have their voice heard about what they liked and didn’t like about the show, and to make suggestions for 2026. Our show continues to get bigger and better due to the input from our guilds!

Here are proposed dates for upcoming programs in 2025:

  • January 8 – Got Scraps? Workshop – 9:30 AM to 2 PM. Doors open at 9.
  • January 15 – Monthly meeting
  • February 5 – Mini-Retreat – 8 AM to 5 PM. See promo flyer here.
  • February 19 – Monthly meeting
  • March 14 – Quilt Show Speaker, Scott Murkin. At Elon Community Church, sanctuary.
  • March 19 – Monthly meeting
  • April 16 – Monthly meeting
  • May 21 – Monthly meeting
  • June 18 – Monthly meeting
  • July – NO MEETING
  • August 20 – Monthly meeting
  • September 17 – Monthly meeting
  • October 15 – Monthly meeting
  • November 12 (?) – Veteran Celebration and Luncheon. NOTE: THIS MEETING WILL probably BE AT BEACON BAPTIST CHURCH, 1622 Kirkpatrick Road, Burlington, NC.
  • December 17 (?) – Christmas Party (at Elmira Community Center).

For 2025, the editor is our “lovely Leona W,” who always tries (and usually succeeds) to add a special fun and flair to our guild! She has already christened the monthly update with a formal name, “The Quilt Connection.” You can find the current edition here.

Here is Leona’s introductory message, in the first edition:

After much thought and consideration, I chose QUILT CONNECTION because quilting is what binds us to each other, our families, and our friends. I thought it was cute to use some of these suggestions as headers for the different types of news we send out each month. My goal is to continue to make the newsletter informative and fun.
